OK, so now Barry Bonds is finally indicted. If he perjured himself its hard to deny that he committed a crime. It's hard to believe, but he could go to jail for this. But the bigger story is the use of steroids in sports. I really don't care if he or other athletes used steroids. There are a couple of things to consider for you baseball purists.

1. If Bonds used steroids, and so many other players used steroids, i.e. Mark McGwire, Sammy Sosa, Brady Anderson, Jay Gibbons, Rafael Palmiero, etc. the list goes on and on, isn't the playing field level? Do you really have an advantage if everybody is using?

2. What can you conclude about the players who used steroids and did not become superstars? I'm talking about the minor leaguers and marginal players who got caught. These folks didn't get bigger, stronger, better. Heck, most didn't even make it to the major leagues.

3. If Barry Bonds' home run record deserves and asterisk next to it because Hank Aaron, Willie Mays and Babe Ruth didn't use steroids, don't most records broken and set in modern times deserve an asterisk next to it? Ruth, Aaron, Frank Robinson, etc didn't work out year round either. They couldn't afford to. They had to get offseason jobs to support their families. In addition, the benfits of weight training and year round workouts were known or well accepted in the past. I wonder how many home runs Willie Mays would have hit if he hit the weight room regularly like Barry Bonds, Roger Clemens and most modern day major leaguers. The most Ruth did was 12 oz curls. Besides, maybe Ruth and other players used steroids. How do we really know if they used steroids or not? After all, not many people hit 660 home runs.

4. Bonds has never flunked a drug test.

5. Look at the difference between the head size of a young Barry Bonds and an older one, and a young Roger Clemens, and an older one. In fact look at the difference in the size of the head of your own father when he was 22, and now (if he is 50 or over).

6. Steroid use was not against baseball rules or even illegal, when Bonds and McGwire were accused of using them.

7. Should taking steroids really be a crime? Who is the victim here? It's certainly not like robbing a bank or murdering someone.

8. Steroids do not improve hand-eye coordination. Anyone who has played baseball knows that it takes a lot more than strength to hit a baseball 400 feet. If that were not true, then a lot more steroid users would be jacking up 40-50 home runs per year.

Rafael Palmiero's swing is what allowed him to hit 500 home runs. Besides, did he even look like a steroid user? At least Bonds is buff. If you use steroids and you don't work out, you get zero benefit, ask any bodybuilder.
I would like to think that my federal government has more important things to do with its time and my tax dollars than to get involved in a sport. How about hunger, education, war, the environment, genocide in Darfur. It reminds me of the witch hunt for Bill Clinton. The man got a blowjob, and people wanted to crucify him. I'm not advocating lying under oath or cheating on your wife, but lets be real, and lets remember the things that are really important.

Life gets so wacky and unordered at times, people need a dose of normality to remind them that the Earth still spins on its axis and orbits the sun.
Barry Bonds provided such a moment at China Basin on Friday night, hours after being awarded the key to the city in a downtown ceremony honoring his home run record. He took that familiar swing and hit that familiar rainbow blast into McCovey Cove, this time on one bounce. (#761-More Here!)

Bonds hits No. 756 ... The Greatest?

With all the troubles they media and public have been giving Barry... I'm glad to see that under the pressure he did what Great Athletes do.. take solace on the field. By hitting that homerun and breaking the record regardless of all the noise the people make.. BARRY IS THE BEST HOMERUN HITTER EVER! ...SAN FRANCISCO -- Barry Bonds raised both arms over his head like a prize fighter in victory, fists clenched -- and then he took off.
It was over at long last.
Like him or not, legitimate or not, he is baseball's new home run king.
Bonds hit No. 756 to the deepest part of the ballpark Tuesday night, and hammered home that very point. He broke Hank Aaron's storied record with one out in the fifth inning, hitting a full-count, 84 mph pitch from Washington's Mike Bacsik.
"I knew I hit it," Bonds said. "I knew I got it. I was like, phew, finally."
Later, he firmly and flatly rejected any suggestion that this milestone was stained by steroids.
"This record is not tainted at all. At all. Period," Bonds said.
Bonds sent the ball arcing high into the night, 435 feet into the right-center field seats.
"Thank you very much. I got to thank all of you, all the fans here in San Francisco. It's been fantastic," he said shortly after crossing home plate, his godfather, Willie Mays, at his side.

McNabb Says He Hopes Things Work Out for Vick

BETHLEHEM, Pa., Aug. 1 -- Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb said he remains supportive of Michael Vick, even with the Atlanta Falcons quarterback scheduled to go on trial in November on federal dogfighting charges.
"I'm a supporter of Vick," McNabb said Tuesday at Lehigh University. "That's because I'm a good friend of his and also we're guys that obviously compete to win the Super Bowl. We push each other. Now, I don't know exactly what happened in that situation, and I think for all of us that have read over the stuff that was over the Internet, the report, you look at it as kind of like, 'Wow, you've got your so-called friends and family members turning their back on you now to make their situation better.' They're throwing you under the bus so that they can clean their name. That's unfortunate. That goes to show, I always have a saying that I've always lived by: If you can't trust family, who can you trust? It's an unfortunate situation, and I just hope everything works out well for him where he can get back out on the field."

C’s get passion player: Garnett has serious side

As he spoke during Tuesday’s press conference about being appreciated, Kevin Garnett got a little emotional.
Get used to it.
The word from inside the Timberwolves was unanimous in painting a picture of an intense star who is far deeper than the often superficial world of professional sports. Kevin Garnett, they said, gives a damn.
“He’s an incredibly loyal person, and he takes that very seriously,” said one Minnesota source. “If he believes you’re with him, he opens up and gives you everything. The only problem with that is that Kevin can get upset when he perceives a slight, even if it’s not a real one.”

The break in the loyalty chain is what ultimately got him to Boston. As Garnett said, he wanted to finish his career with the Wolves but realized he couldn’t after learning of the club’s plans.

Bonds hitless, remains at 754 home runs

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Barry Bonds looks as if he's lost that picture-perfect swing.
With thousands of cameras flashing at every pitch that came his way, the slugger struggled again to find the impeccable hand-eye coordination that has defined his 22-year career.
Bonds went hitless and remained at 754 home runs and one from tying Hank Aaron's record in the Giants' 6-4 loss to the Dodgers on Wednesday night.
The Giants' biggest rival sure has made Bonds look bad lately, giving Los Angeles fans a lot to cheer about.
Bonds went 0-for-3 with an intentional walk and is hitless in 19 at-bats against the Dodgers since a single on April 26.
