How is this even up for DEBATE?

How are the lyrics to any music(hip hop or anything) being or even up for debate in the senate... besides the war and terrorism in general aren't there more important things going on.... Or maybe is it that there are too many black people out there getting money from being able to tell stories and because they are starting to over invade those "OLD MONEY AREAS" that its becoming an issue... check out the story and give me some feedback!
House Panel Debates Hip-Hop Lyrics
By JIM ABRAMS
Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON (AP) - Lawmakers, music industry executives and rappers disagreed Tuesday over who was to blame for sexist and degrading language in hip hop music but united in opposing government censorship as a solution.
``If by some stroke of the pen hip hop was silenced, the issues would still be present in our communities,'' rapper and record producer David Banner, whose real name is Levell Crump, said in prepared statements to a House Energy and Commerce subcommittee hearing. ``Drugs, violence and the criminal element were around long before hip hop existed.''
At the hearing, music videos showing scantily clad women were played; music executives in dark suits testified on the uses of the ``B,'' H'' and ``N'' words, and black civil rights leaders talked of corporate exploitation.
``We have allowed greedy corporate executives - especially those in the entertainment industry - to lead many of our young people to believe that it is OK to entertain themselves by destroying the culture of our people,'' E. Faye Williams, chair of the National Congress of Black Women, said in prepared remarks.
``From Imus to Industry: The business of stereotypes and degrading images,'' was the title of the hearing, referring to former radio host Don Imus, who lost his job after making derogatory comments about the Rutgers women's basketball team. The Imus incident has sparked debate within the music industry about black artists using offensive, misogynist and violent language. more

Rappers arrested on gun charges
THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
Monday, July 23rd 2007

"Uh Oh.”

That's the name of a new song by rappers Ja Rule and Lil Wayne. It also may have been what the two were thinking on Sunday night when police arrested the top-selling hip-hop artists on charges of carrying illegal .40-caliber guns.

Ja Rule, 31, of Saddle Brook, N.J., and Lil Wayne, 25, of Miami, were each arrested and charged with criminal possession
of a weapon, police said. Ja Rule's real name is Jeff Atkins; Lil Wayne's is Dwayne Carter.

They were arrested shortly after Carter's concert at the Beacon Theatre in Manhattan. It was not immediately clear whether Atkins had also performed.

Officers spotted Carter and another man smoking marijuana by a tour bus near 61st Street and Columbus Avenue at about 11:30 p.m., police said. The officers took the two men into custody, finding the pistol. Both were charged with criminal possession of a weapon and marijuana.

Atkins was arrested about an hour earlier on West End Avenue. Police said he was in a luxury sedan that was going too fast.

Officers stopped the car and arrested the occupants — Atkins, the driver and another man — and found the weapon, police
said.

Contact information for the rappers' managers could not be found early Monday, and there was no immediate response to messages left with their record company, Universal Motown. It also was not immediately clear whether they had attorneys.

Ja Rule rose to fame in the mid-1990s after appearing on a hit song with Jay-Z and later going on to record platinum-selling solo albums.

Lil Wayne's albums include "Tha Block Is Hot," "Lights Out," "Tha Carter" and "Tha Carter II."

EVE.... drunk and driving

Rapper/actress Eve has pleaded no contest to DUI charges, stemming from an April accident on Hollywood Blvd in Hollywood CA.

According to TMZ.com, Eve's lawyer Blair Berk pleaded no contest to the charges on behalf of Eve in Los Angeles County Superior Court today (June 28).

Eve, born Eve Jeffers, had a .08 blood alcohol level when she crashed her gold Maserati, following a night of partying.

The actress/rapper, who is gearing up to release her latest album Here I Am, has been ordered to wear a SCRAM alcohol monitoring device around her ankle for 45 days.

She must enroll in an alcohol education program, serve 36 months of informal probation and pay pay $1400 in fines and penalties.

Eve originally pleaded not guilty to the charges.

REMEMBER: Paperboy

California rapper Paperboy, well known for his 90's hit "Ditty," was arrested by Merced authorities on Wednesday (June 13) for allegedly selling marijuana.

According to The Merced Sun Star, authorities revealed Paperboy (born Mitchell Johnson) had been under investigation for several weeks before he was pulled over in his black 1990 Honda Accord and arrested.

The rapper was booked into the Merced County Jail on charges of possession and sales of marijuana, possession of more than one ounce of marijuana, and transportation of marijuana for sale.

Paperboy remains held at Merced County Jail on $20,000 bail. Fresno Action News reported that police are currently investigating the rapper's cell phone for information on his possible clients.

Merced Police Commander Tommy Martin divulged that Paperboy told members of the gang unit that he squandered away all the money he earned from rapping and is now living in poverty.
