Dr Rock - Editorial- Baltimore SPORTS.....

Here is another editorial from Dr. Rock. Check out his views and leave a few comments... Makes alot of sense to me! Also check out DR. Rocks site...Dr. Rock and the MLBs

OK, I am officially off of the Ravens bandwagon. You lose to the worse team in the NFL means that YOU are the worse team in the NFL!!! The Ravens lost to the Dolphins!!! Let me repeat that..,The Ravens lost to the Dolphins!!!. Billick should be fired. I don't think he should be fired because of this loss. I think he should have been fired long ago, like when he stuck with Elvis Gerbac, who was stinking up the place when he had Randall Cunningham on the bench. Elvis was crying, Randall was sighing, and then Elvis left the building. He stuck with Tony (I don't know what the fuck I'm doing) Banks too long. He/they brought in Steve McNair, a good move but only for a year or two, any bonehead knew that. That was a good decision. Throwing a pass on third and one is not, especially when you have Willis (40 million dollars) MaGhahee in the backfield (I hope I spelled his name right). MaGahee has been the lone bright spot of this season. The one good thing you can say is that when you are this down, you can only go up. I think the NFL should excuse the Ravens from playing their last 2 games.

How about those Orioles!! They bring in new management with the name McPhail, and what does he do? Trade our best player for a few no names. The fact that you can get five players for one player tells you how good that player is, and maybe how good those players are. Maybe the Orioles think Tejada is old at 31. They should learn from their own history.

In 1966, the Cincinnatti (sp) Reds thought Frank Robinson was an "old" 30, despite the fact that he had set the rookie record for home runs with 38 (that record stood until Mark McGwire broke it with 49 in his rookie season).

Frank went on to hit 49 home runs in 1966 with the Orioles and win the Triple Crown, which means leading the league in home runs, average and RBIs in one season, not bad for an "old man". Not coincidentally, the Orioles won the World Series against a heavily favored Dodgers team. Only one person has one the Triple Crown since then, Carl Yaztemski of the Boston Red Sox. That shows you how hard it is to do (whether you use steroids or not).

The Oriole Management is dumb. Lets pretend for a moment that all they care about is filling the seats and making money. Lets pretend that they don't care about fielding a winning team, as long as they are making money. I would like to think that their priorities are a little more mixed, i.e. fielding a winning team and making money.
If I were the GM, I would not have traded Tejada for a bunch of no names, heres why:

1) He is one of the best players in the game.

2)He was tearing up the league when the Orioles acquired Sammy Sosa.

3) Everyone had to pitch to Tejada because Sammy was following him.

4)Then the league realized that Sosa couldn't hit anymore.
5)Tejada's numbers declined from then on because teams didn't have to pitch to him.
Now the best player in that deal is a pitcher who throws in the mid 80's. What the F? Are we becoming the Kansas City Royals. We don't have to be. Kansas City, Minnesota, Oakland, etc are the definition of a small market team. We are a large market team. Why? Because the Yankees fans and the Red Sox fans make us so!
If your focus is only on making money, we have several dates every year that the Orioles are guaranteed to sell out. These dates involve the Yankees and the Red Sox. Camden Yards is full when those teams come. Is it because the rivalry is great? No! Is it because Yankees and Red Sox fans just want to see their team pummel ours? No! Its because many fans in New York and Boston can't get tickets there. They have to come to Baltimore to see their HOME team!. So you have sell outs there. It's like having the entire east coast as your home base. You definitely would have more sell outs if you have a competitive team. Maybe we would sell out games against the Angels, Indians, Twins, etc.
How do you make those other games a sell out? You do it by having a competitive team, and some name recognition
We tried to get Guerrillo (sp). He wouldn't come (confederate money). What we need to do now is to over pay to get a big name or two to come here. It is an investment that will fill the stands, help us win some games, and attract other big names to Baltimore. I believe most big names think that we are a small town with no history. We should have gotten Tejada some help instead of trading him! The RedSox make money with a 48,000 seat stadium. You mean to tell me we couldn't make money with Camden Yards? And the Inner Harbor? And the Aquarium? And Fells Point?
There are a few teams with really rich history, i.e. the Yankees, the Red Sox, The Cardinals, The Dodgers, the Reds, the Orioles, and a few others.
We can sell out even more games with a competitive team since we already have the New York and New England markets in our pocket.
They fill our stadium when we are a sorry team, granted, its with their fans, but money is money. Imagine how filled the stadium would be if we just had a competitive team, let alone a championship team. The Red Sox and Yankees fans wouldn't be able to get a ticket if we had a decent team. The stadium might fill up every home game! Mr Angelos would make money, the team would make money, and we would be players in the free agent market every year. The Yankees and Red Sox are players in the free agent market every year. Why? Because they sell out every game, they always have a winning, or at least competitive team with STARS. Therefore, merchandising profits go up, advertising profits go up, and the team makes money. How else do you think a team with a 48,000 seat capacity can afford to pay over $50,000 just to TALK to Dice-K, then pay him millions, or pay 27 million dollars to A-Rod. We can do the same thing! We have this right in our backyard. The Red Sox and Yankees fans will help pay for OUR free agents. Its as plain as the nose on your face.
Mr Angelos, hire me as your General Manager, give me some money. I'll fill the seats, and put a winning team on the field.

Somebody please pass this along to Mr Angelos and Mr McPhail. I'm ready for a career change!
